The Fondation pour la Recherches Scientifique was created in 2012 by Dr. Saadou Issifou. After a successful career in medical research, heading the "Centre de Recherches Medicales de Lambaréné (CERMEL) for over 10 years, Dr. Issifou returned to Benin where he had started his scientific career as a young doctor. Dr. Saadou set up a competent team of young medical researchers and successfully assisted in the European and Developing Countries Clinical Trial Partnership (EDCTP) funded PAMVAC trial, together with the IRD. With the "Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI)" as a partner, he started to set up epidemiological survey of Lassa fever in 2019 in several medical centers throughout Benin. However, he was unable to see the fruits of his efforts and after a short illness, he passed away in February 2020. Despite the great loss, the co-founders of FORS decided to continue research activity and after some restructuring in 2020 restarted activity.
